Stillness in Layers: Textured Painting

Workshop – 2.5 hours | All Levels Welcome

This Sunday morning hands-on workshop explores new creative possibilities with slower, more mindful painting. You'll explore thick layering, palette knife techniques and the tactile joy of building depth and texture. In this workshop, you'll learn how to:

• Paint with a palette knife for dynamic texture and movement
• Use modelling paste to build depth and sculptural effects
• Experiment with engraving (sgraffito) to scratch, carve and reveal hidden layers

What is included?

All material (acrylic paints, specialty material, a canvas, brushes etc.). Coffee, tea and small snacks are also included!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be advised that acrylic colours are not the easiest to wash from clothing! A kitchen-style apron is provided for you to use on site, however, we recommend you not to come in the finest clothing - or to bring some extra protective clothing! ☺️

What will I take home?

At the end of the class, you will have a finished textured painting. Please note, as this techniques takes longer to dry depending on the thickness, the painting may remain at the studio for you to pick it up at a later date (Pick up is always possible on Thursdays from 17:00-20:00). Other times possible upon agreement.

I'm unsure about my level, is this class for me?

All levels welcome! KWASSIE fosters a non-judgemental approach and exploring creativity, so it is a nice mix of classical fine arts technique and modern thinking. We want you to enjoy and have fun in creating and switch off from screens and our fast-paced lifestyle for a bit, so our classes are adjusted to total newcomers.

Language of instruction

The session is instructed in German or English.
